Start with the controlled drawing
Identify critical dimensions, datums, interfaces and surface conditions in the controlled project documents. Use the same revision for the model and drawing. Explain assembly or functional context without substituting it for an acceptance requirement.
Measurements and report contents
| Inspection requirement | Question for your quote |
|---|---|
| Dimensions and gauges | Which dimensions or features need checking? |
| Coordinate measurement | What features, datum references and report scope are required? |
| Surface roughness | Which surfaces and drawing requirements apply? |
| Material verification | What method, such as XRF where appropriate, is required for the material and application? |
| Inspection and material documents | Which documents must accompany the delivery? |
This is a checklist for defining an inspection request. Methods, availability, coverage, documents and cost must be confirmed for your project.
Reports, material documents and approvals
- Critical features and applicable acceptance criteria
- Required report contents and sample coverage
- Material or finish documents when required
- Part identification and revision on delivered documents
- Any buyer approval required before production
Changes to the drawing, material or finish
A geometry, material or finish change can alter the requirements being quoted. Update the controlled documents and confirm the revision under review. Resolve differences between the model, drawing and purchase information before work proceeds.
