Materials and finishing

Aluminum, stainless steel, titanium and engineering material options, with finishing requirements defined for the order. The grades below are RFQ options; availability and suitability are checked for the part.

Aluminum

6061-T6 and 7075-T6 are examples of specific designations to include when required by a drawing. State the governing specification, documents and substitution policy. A material family name alone does not establish an equivalent substitute.

Example designationRFQ information
6061-T6Required condition, source standard and documentation
7075-T6Required condition, finish, critical features and acceptance criteria

Stainless steel

When the design specifies SUS304 or SUS316L, retain the exact designation and identify the governing specification. Ask for sourcing to be confirmed; do not assume that a similarly named grade meets the same purchasing requirements.

Example designationRFQ information
SUS304Material designation, condition and permitted substitution policy
SUS316LMaterial designation, condition, finish and required documentation

Titanium and engineering materials

For TC4, POM, PEEK, FR-4 or another specified material, provide the full designation and application requirements that need review. The examples do not establish inventory, material properties for your application or acceptance of every geometry.

Finishes and affected surfaces

Requested treatment exampleInformation to include
Bead blastingAffected surfaces and appearance requirements
AnodizingRequired standard, color, thickness and masking when specified
Electroless nickelRequired standard, thickness and treated surfaces
PassivationMaterial and applicable requirement
Powder coatingColor, surface preparation, coating and masking requirements
MarkingContent, location and method requiring review

Confirm that the proposed treatment suits the material and part. State whether dimensional requirements apply before or after treatment. Include inspection and documentation in the same quote scope.

Quote alternatives separately

If an alternative material or finish is acceptable, ask for it to be identified and priced separately. Record the differences in material, finish and acceptance requirements so the base quote remains comparable with your request.
