Mounting, sealing and mating features
Identify the surfaces and holes used to locate, mount, seal or join the part. Put dimensions, datums and surface requirements in the controlled drawing or agreed model definition. Notes about the assembly can explain why a feature matters.
- Part number, revision and units
- Critical dimensions and datum references
- Threads, inserts and mating features
- Material, finish and the surfaces they apply to
Deep pockets, thin walls and tool access
Deep pockets, thin walls, internal corners and features reached from several faces may need review of tooling and workholding. Tool reach, clamping and the workpiece setup affect the machining approach; show the relevant features in the RFQ.
If a feature can change, mark it as open to engineering review. Proposed changes need your approval before they become part of the production definition.
Material and finishing information
Specify the full material grade and condition, together with any required material documents. Identify treated surfaces, masking and the finish standard. Sourcing, process suitability and inspection coverage need agreement for the particular order.
Prepare material and finish requirementsModel, drawing and revision
Open the model export and drawing before sending them. Check the part number and revision, then label any assembly components supplied only for reference. If the geometry and drawing differ, identify the conflict for review.
